Registered Sports Massage Therapists

Sports massage is traditionally done before or after an exercise event (triathlon, competitions…). It consists of compressions, stretching, frictions, and knowledge of how to treat sports related injuries. Sports massage was originally meant to warm up or recover from an athletic event. The benefits of sports massage before a sporting event are to promote blood flow, create more dynamic/ elastic muscles that are ready for sports. The benefit of sport massage post exercise it to recover, by flushing out all of the excess Hydrogen ions (commonly referred to lactic acid) that create acidity in the muscles also known as DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).

Since there are many benefits to sports massage before and after a sporting event, we can take these techniques and use them in a regular massage to continue the recovery and increase the range of motion. Sports Massage therapist's have the knowledge of human movement to determine how an injury happened and how to treat a specific injury, it can be used at anytime.

Sports Massage FAQs

Do I have to be an athlete to get a sports massage?

Sports Massage techniques were originally to help Athletes warm-up and recovery from injuries and exercise. However, these techniques can help most injuries and are extremely helpful for low back pain and headaches!

Yes, these two are different techniques. Sports massage includes stretching, compressions, frictions, and knowledge of specific sport related injuries such as tennis elbow or jumper’s knee. Whereas deep tissue massage is about getting deeper into the layers of muscles to access more adhesions (knots) that cause pain.

Does sports massage cost more?
