What is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic care is a healthcare profession focused on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine.
The core philosophy is that proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, enables the body to heal itself without surgery or medication.
Why are we different?
We prioritize a higher standard of care by moving away from "quick-fix" models and focusing on long-term recovery through:
Patient-Centred Care: Your goals and comfort are our priority. We listen to your history and tailor every treatment plan to fit your specific lifestyle and recovery needs.
Longer Treatment Times: We don't believe in rushed appointments. By spending more 1-on-1 time with you, we ensure a thorough assessment and more comprehensive manual therapy in every session.
Integrated Corrective Exercise: Recovery doesn't end when you leave the table. We include personalized exercise prescriptions to improve functional movement and prevent future injury.
An Evidence-Based Approach: Our methods are grounded in the latest clinical research and proven biomechanical principles, ensuring you receive the most effective care possible.
Holistic care - focused on full body wellness (this may be how I would word it instead of full body treatments, my college can be very particular about only treating areas there has been a full history and physical exam completely by the chiropractor, and they don’t always see the interconnection between complaints - like working on glutes for a lower back pain patient can be an issue unless you’ve done a whole hip exam)
What conditions can Chiropractors help with?
Spinal & Core Injuries
Lower Back Pain: Including lumbar strains, herniated discs, and "thrown out" backs.
Neck Pain & Whiplash: Often resulting from motor vehicle accidents or poor ergonomics.
Sciatica: Sharp, radiating pain that travels from the lower back down the leg due to nerve compression.
Disc Bulges/Herniations: Managing pressure on spinal nerves to reduce pain and numbness.
Extremity & Sports Injuries
Shoulder Issues: Such as rotator cuff strains, impingement syndrome, or "frozen shoulder."
Chronic Headaches: Specifically, tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches (which originate from the neck).
Joint Sprains: Including ankles, knees, and wrists.
Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI): Conditions like Tennis Elbow, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, or Plantar Fasciitis.
Postural & Degenerative Conditions
Postural Strain: Aching caused by "tech neck" or sitting at a desk for extended periods.
Arthritis Management: Helping to maintain joint mobility and reduce stiffness associated with osteoarthritis.
Your First Visit: What to Expect
Comprehensive Assessment: We start with a thorough review of your health history and a physical exam (including posture, mobility, and orthopedic testing) to identify the root cause of your discomfort.
Personalized Treatment Plan: Based on our findings, we discuss a tailored strategy that aligns with your specific goals—whether that is pain relief, injury rehab, or performance gains.
The Treatment: Your session may include a combination of adjustments, soft tissue work, and functional movement screens.
Corrective Strategy: You will leave with a clear understanding of your condition and a "home-care" plan, often including specific corrective exercises to help maintain your progress between visits.
Chiropractic FAQs
Is an adjustment painful?
Chiropractors use a variety of techniques ranging from firm manual adjustments to very gentle, low-force instrument methods. If you are nervous or have a low pain tolerance, your practitioner can adjust their approach to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the session.
What is the purpose of an adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a non-invasive, evidence-based procedure that restores motion to restricted joints using a precise, manual force. This process reduces pain and muscle tension while improving your body's natural alignment and biomechanical function, allowing you to recover and move more freely.
Why do I hear a popping sound? Should I hear that?
The popping sound, known as cavitation, is simply the release of gas bubbles from the fluid within your joints. It is a normal, painless result of the pressure change during an adjustment and is not the sound of bones rubbing together. While common, the sound isn't required for the treatment to be successful—the focus is always on restoring proper movement.
You actually do not need to hear a sound for an adjustment to be successful and have huge positive impacts!
