Combining Modalities
Online Course Details:
-
Take your treatments to the next level by mastering the art and science of combining modalities. This evidence-based online course is designed for massage therapists seeking to maximize patient outcomes while reducing physical strain on their bodies.
Rather than using Hot Stones, cupping, or IASTM (muscle scraping) as isolated add-ons, you will learn how to integrate them into a unified, high-impact clinical workflow seamlessly. We dive into the physiological mechanisms of each tool—backed by modern research—to teach you exactly when, why, and how to transition between modalities for maximum therapeutic effect.
-
Understand the evidence-based physiological effects of thermal therapy, negative pressure (cupping), and mechanical shearing (IASTM).
Mastering all the modalities’ benefits in comparison to each other. So you know exactly which tool(s) to use for the right condition.
Learn how to structure each session, optimizing the order of tools, timing and transitions between modalities
Learn the Safety/ contraindications of combining all modalities
Learn to adapt techniques to individual needs

The Importance of
Combining Modalities
Combining Hot Stones, Cupping, and IASTM into a single treatment targets pain through three synergistic pathways: thermal, negative pressure, and mechanical shearing. Alternating between compression and decompression (push and pull) drastically increases circulation, flushes inflammatory byproducts, and decompresses restricted nerves. This diverse sensory input effectively "resets" the nervous system for immediate, long-lasting pain relief and improved mobility—all while letting the tools do the heavy lifting to protect the therapist’s hands.
