Massage and Kinesiology for

Chronic Headaches

Different Types of Headaches

Migraines

Massage has not been proven to directly help migraines and it will be more comfortable for you to not be massaged during a flare up. Massage can help relax the nervous system and depending on how your migraines are triggered can help with severity of migraines. This varies drastically from person to person because there is a vast number of reasons why a migraine is triggered.

Tension Headaches

If the headache is a tension headache than massage has been highly effective. The Signs and symptoms of a tension headache are, dull, Aching head pain, sensation of tightness or pressure across the forehead/ sides or back of head, tenderness in scalp, neck shoulders and muscles. They are not typically associated with sensitivity to light, vomiting, ect… Tension headaches can last anywhere from 15min to 3 months, they can be constant or on and off. The cause of these headaches is unknown however the most common theory is tension in the muscles surrounding the head including, scalp, jaw, and neck muscles and is most commonly brought on by stress.

Massage For Headaches

Massage has been successful in treating most tension headaches with deep tissue/ and therapeutic massage in the upper back, neck scalp and jaw. We have found that adding contrast therapy to the massage very effective with better results. At this clinic we use hot stones as a tool to achieve the contrast therapy.

Chiropractic Care for Headaches

Chiropractic care addresses headaches primarily by targeting structural, mechanical, and neurological issues in the upper back, neck, and shoulders. When joints in the cervical spine lose proper alignment or mobility, the surrounding muscles tighten, nerves can become irritated, and pain refers up into the head.

Acupuncture for Headaches

Acupuncture helps treat headaches by targeting key neurological and circulatory pathways to reduce pain and release chronic muscle tension. By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific points along the neck, shoulders, scalp, and body, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to release natural pain-relieving endorphins and improve local blood flow. This helps calm overactive nerve signals, relax hypertonic muscle tissue, and lower stress triggers that frequently cause recurring tension headaches and migraines.

Kinesiology for Headaches

Chronic Tension Headaches have numerous reasons for happening. Kinesiology is a great choice in treating Tension Headaches. Often times we see strength and mobility imbalances in the thoracic and cervical spine as well as the shoulder. In the Kinesiology session we work on fixing the imbalances that may be causing the headaches to reoccur. Working on disengaging the tissues that are constantly compensating and causing constant strain and scar tissue build up.
