DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE EDMONTON

Deep Tissue Massage Edmonton - Muscle Release Massage Therapy

Targeted Treatment For Pain & Injuries

Deep tissue massage is used to get into the deep layers of the muscles and connective tissues. We use deep tissue techniques within our massages to treat all types of injuries, including strains, sprains, sports injuries, chronic low back pain, chronic tension headaches, etc. Deep tissue massage can benefit everyone. Often times our muscles are injured in the deep layers of our musculoskeletal system, this technique insures we find and treat the problem areas.  Deep tissue massage can be worked into your pain tolerance level so that it is comfortable, this way everyone can experience the positive effects of releasing the deep layers of the muscle.

Trigger point therapy is a common deep tissue massage technique, this technique is extremely helpful to decrease pain and break up adhesions (knots). Trigger point therapy consists of finding the adhesion and using firm pressure (within pain tolerance so there is no muscle guarding) and holding until there is a release or softening in the muscles. A trigger point is a hyperirratible area within your muscle that sustains contraction (even when you are relaxed), when pushing on the trigger point we can often feel referral pain. For example, sometimes we push and sustain pressure on a trigger point and you can feel it running down your arm or your leg! This is normal, the area is sensitive because it has been in a constant state of contraction and often wrapped around the nerve (not allowing your nerve to run freely through the muscle). Trigger point therapy will always be with in your pain tolerance, you do not need to worry!

Deep Tissue Massage FAQs

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

Yes and no. Deep tissue massage can hurt because we are targeting the deep layers of muscles which requires firm pressure, and adhesions (knots) are often painful and more sensitive. However there are ways to decrease the pain of deep tissue massage using heat (we use hot stones for heat) and we can take our time getting into those deep layers of the muscles to decrease the amount of pain. We work within your pain tolerance, during the massage you should never experience more than a 6-7 out of 10 pain.

How do I book deep tissue massage?

We include deep tissue massage in every massage. We use our expertise and knowledge to understand where and when deep tissue will be beneficial and most effective.

Can every therapist get deep enough?

All of our therapists are very strong and very good at what they do. We use our knowledge and education to understand where we need to push to alleviate your pain.

Why do I get weird referral pain with deep tissue massage?

This is normal, Your muscles are tight, and they are often in a constant state of contraction even when you are trying to relax. This can impinge the nerves that surround the area. When we push and get deeper into tight muscles the nerves that are trapped are sending referral pain. After we stop pushing on the area the referral pain goes away!
