The Muscle Release Method | Deep Tissue, Hot Stone & Cupping Massage Edmonton & St. Albert
The Muscle Release Method:
The Muscle Release Method is our signature massage, created by Muscle Release Massage Therapy. It combines four signature techniques in every treatment (deep tissue, hot stone, cupping, and IASTM), whether you visit South Edmonton or St. Albert each Therapist utilizes our refined techniques we developed and now teach to therapists across Western Canada.
Most clinics charge extra for add-ons. We include them. All three techniques are part of every massage at no additional cost.
Developed by Muscle Release Massage
After years of treating injuries, we saw that no single technique works for every muscle, every injury, or every client, and that traditional methods often left results on the table. So we built our own.
We took the traditional hot stone massage and redesigned it for deep tissue work, using stones for heat and leverage, not just relaxation. We developed a deep tissue cupping approach that combines cups with fascial stretching techniques. We built an IASTM system using a wide range of tools, so every treatment can be matched to the client.
Together, these became the Muscle Release Method: our standard for every massage, and the foundation of the courses we teach. Click here to learn more about our courses.
The Four Techniques
Deep Tissue Massage
The foundation of every treatment. Slow, focused pressure targets tight muscles and deeper layers of tissue to relieve pain, tension, and restricted movement.

Hot Stone for Heat and Leverage
We don’t use hot stones just to help you relax. We use them as tools. Heat helps muscles soften so we can work deeper with less discomfort, and the stones give your therapist leverage for more precise pressure. Our deep tissue hot stone technique was developed by Muscle Release and is taught in our Deep Tissue Hot Stone Course.

Cupping Therapy
Where massage presses into the tissue, cupping lifts it. This helps release tight areas, improve circulation, and restore movement between layers of muscle and fascia. Our deep tissue cupping with fascial stretching was developed by Muscle Release and is taught in our Cupping Course.

IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)
Using specialized tools, your therapist can find and treat restricted areas and scar tissue that hands alone may miss. Our multi-tool IASTM approach was developed by Muscle Release and is taught in our IASTM Muscle Scraping Course.

The Muscle Release Method FAQs
Does deep tissue massage hurt?
Yes and no. Deep tissue massage can hurt because we are targeting the deep layers of muscles which requires firm pressure, and adhesions (knots) are often painful and more sensitive. However there are ways to decrease the pain with The Muscle Release Method. We utilize using heat from the stones and we can take our time getting into those deep layers of the muscles to decrease the amount of pain. We work within your pain tolerance, during the massage you should never experience more than a 6-7 out of 10 pain.
How do I book the Muscle Release Method?
Just book any deep tissue or therapeutic massage online at our South Edmonton or St. Albert clinic. The Muscle Release Method is included automatically. Your therapist will use each technique where it’s most effective for you.
Will Cupping Leave Marks?
Cupping can leave temporary circular marks that usually fade within a few days. Or we can utilize Sliding cups that do not leave marks. Let your therapist know if you have an event coming up.
Can every therapist get deep enough?
Yes. All of our therapists are trained in the Muscle Release Method, and the hot stones and IASTM tools give them extra leverage to reach deep layers of muscle without relying on force alone.
Does the Muscle Release Method cost extra?
No. All four techniques are included in every massage at no additional cost.
Can I bill my insurance?
Yes. Treatments are performed by registered massage therapists and can be billed to most extended health plans.
Can I skip a technique I don’t like?
Absolutely. Just let your therapist know, and your treatment will be adjusted.
